Get to know: Mohammed-Ali Aslam
We spoke to Tenmat’s Graduate Business Developer, Mohammed-Ali Aslam, to find out more about his role, how he is settling into life at Tenmat, and what he gets up to in his time away from work.

Could you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?
I’m Tenmat’s Graduate Business Developer, focusing on the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, with a particular interest in expanding into the Moroccan and Saudi markets. My Moroccan and Pakistani background has shaped my passion for connecting with different cultures and speaking multiple languages. I’m fluent in English, Arabic, and Spanish – I am currently learning Italian and Turkish, and can speak Urdu and Punjabi at a conversational level, continuing to develop my skills in both languages.
I recently graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a degree in International Business with Spanish, which included a semester abroad in Córdoba, Spain, and a placement year as a Field Sales Representative for Red Bull. During my final year, I also worked part-time as a Red Bull Student Marketeer, driving the iconic Red Bull Mini and running brand activations across the country. These experiences gave me a strong foundation in relationship-building, market development, and cross-cultural communication, all of which I now bring into my role at Tenmat.
What does your job involve?
My role is all about creating opportunities. I focus on developing relationships with businesses in the MENA region, identifying potential partners, and introducing them to Tenmat’s range of high-quality solutions through advanced materials. I also work across the UK and Europe when required. A big focus right now is exploring new markets for our products, from our flagship cavity fire barriers to pipe supports for industrial applications, as well as supporting the development of a new fire door core product. This involves working closely with architects, designers, builders, and engineers to gather insights and deliver the best solutions, all while helping improve fire safety.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy most is that no two days are the same; you never know what opportunities or challenges might come up. I love using my language skills to connect with people all over the world, whether visiting building sites to see our work in action or meeting potential partners on their premises and learning more about their industries. I also enjoy exploring different parts of our business, from the materials development lab and fire lab to the factory where our products are manufactured. Attending national and international conferences, meeting clients abroad, and having the flexibility to work from home all add to the variety. But above all, the feel-good factor of knowing the products I help bring to market can make a real difference, potentially saving lives and improving fire safety globally is what makes my job truly rewarding.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Most mornings start with checking emails, Teams, and LinkedIn messages, and following up with contacts in different time zones, especially across the MENA region. I then move on to market research, exploring opportunities, and identifying potential partners. Afternoons are often filled with meetings or calls with prospects or working with colleagues on strategies for product launches and market entry. Innovation is at the heart of Tenmat’s DNA, so there’s always a focus on finding creative solutions and new ways to bring value to our customers. The balance between independent work and collaboration keeps each day varied and engaging.
What makes Tenmat a good company to work for?
There’s a strong culture of trust at Tenmat, where you’re given the freedom to explore new ideas alongside the support of experienced colleagues who are always happy to share their knowledge. Everyone’s input is valued, which makes it a genuinely collaborative and rewarding place to work. The people here are friendly, approachable, and were incredibly welcoming when I first started, making me feel part of the team straight away. Tenmat’s high staff retention, with many colleagues having been here for over a decade, and its century-long history are clear signs of a company built on stability and loyalty.
And finally, what do you like to get up to away from work?
I love travelling and exploring new places, whether it’s a quick weekend trip in the UK or a getaway abroad. I enjoy being under the sun, by the sea, or hiking in the mountains. Some weekends you’ll find me on a trail in the Peaks, and other times visiting family in Morocco or discovering somewhere new. I’m also very passionate about staying healthy and active I regularly train in Muay Thai and boxing, play badminton and I try to surf and cycle as often as I can. I always make sure to spend plenty of time with family and friends.
