FEROGLIDE SELF-LUBRICATING BEARINGS FOR MOGLICË HPP IN ALBANIA

 In TENMAT News

TENMAT has supplied FEROGLIDE bearings and a wheel roller bearings on the intake gate for Moglicë HPP – a large hydroelectric power plant on the Devoll River in the village Moglicë, Albania. Expected completion for the project is during 2018.

The gates will control the supply of the Devoll River, a 22km stretch of water with 300m head. The river will lead into the Moglicë reservoir and a dam, which is anticipated to be the world’s highest. The reservoir surface area will be over 7 million m2.

PROJECT DESIGN

The design has been undertaken by a major European power company and includes two Francis turbines with combined power of roughly 170 MW. Annual estimated production is around 450 GWh.

Full Devoll hydro power system will contain Moglicë HPP (equipped with FEROGLIDE bearings) and two smaller hydroelectric power plants further down the river Devoll – the Kokel HPP and Banja HPP.

The projects are estimated to increase Albania’s power production by 20{b31dfa9a7c8099c314e960b46e483f159faba86f4e59565e93b438ccc25543d8} annually.

KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS FOR MOGLICË HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT

FEROGLIDE bearings are the best solution for Moglicë HPP, where low surface speeds combine with high loads.

FEROGLIDE is a proprietary self-lubricating bearing, maintenance free material of woven PTFE fibres applied to a rigid backing and can run wet or dry. Also available in an innovative fabric-free lining with special low friction coating.

FEROGLIDE’s unique PTFE fabric liner gives exceptionally low friction and as a result allows for tighter tolerances, smaller clearances and reduced leaks through the gates.

A FULL RANGE OF TENMAT MATERIALS FOR HYDRO APPLICATIONS

The ability of TENMAT bearings to work in both dry and wet conditions without grease lubrication means they are used in a wide variety of applications within the Hydropower industry. FEROFORM and FEROGLIDE bearings have been used around the world for many years and there are long lists of references in Francis, Kaplan, and Pelton turbines as also in the associated mechanical equipment. FEROFORM T814 has a low coefficient of friction in both wet and dry conditions.

It is used for wicket gates in the upper, intermediate and lower positions, as well as in control linkages. FEROFORM T814 is resistant to abrasive conditions such as water containing silt, which gives high performance in main guide bearings. FEROGLIDE bearings have the ability to take high loads and are used in oscillating applications such as regulating rings, valve bearings and wicket gate bearings. The high load carrying capability of FEROFORM T814 gives great benefits in applications such as radial gates, lock gates and sluices.
